The afternoon sun, streaming through the window, illuminated the dust motes dancing in the air. Each one seemed to represent a lost opportunity. The new hire, a young woman named Chloe, was absorbing everything he said, her gaze steady and intent. It made him feel… exposed.

He shifted in his chair, feeling a growing discomfort. His shirt felt too tight. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to appear relaxed.
